Byondis Announces Appointment of New Vice President, Intellectual Property
28 September 2020Byondis B.V. is pleased to announce the appointment of Marieke van Gent as new vice president, Intellectual Property. Van Gent will assume this role on November 1, operating out of Byondis’ headquarters in Nijmegen.
A European patent attorney with more than 25 years of experience in all aspects of IP, Van Gent has worked in leadership roles for an array of top global companies in various industries, including biotechnology, pharma and specialty chemicals.
“Marieke’s IP experience and track record, combined with her strategic business sense and excellent communications and leadership skills, make her a great addition to our team,” said Byondis CLO Hans Pegt, LLM.

Prior to joining Byondis, Van Gent was director of IP for AkzoNobel/Nouryon, where she also served as a member of the legal leadership and senior executive teams. Prior to that, she was director of IP at FrieslandCampina and director of patents DUV at ASML. Van Gent spent most of her career in various (bio)pharmaceutical IP leadership roles at AkzoNobel Pharma/Schering-Plough/MSD. Van Gent has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands.
